What is a CIC ?
ATTIX is a registered "not for profit" and Community Interest Company (CIC). The CIC model is designed to provide an effective legal framework for social enterprises which aim to provide benefit to the community or to trade with a “social purpose” rather than to make a profit.
A Community Interest Company is a relatively new type of legal framework for businesses, established in UK company law by the Companies (Audit, Investigations and Community Enterprise) Act 2004 . Community Interest Companies are regulated by both UK Company Law - The Companies Act 2006 (as is every UK based business) - as well as by a separate and independent government regulator, The Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies, who are governed by The Community Interest Company Regulations 2005.
The "asset lock" is an essential feature of all CICs and is designed to ensure that the assets of the CIC are used exclusively for the benefit of the community. Any assets and profits must be retained within the CIC and used solely for community benefit. The only bodies to which assets are allowed to be transferred are other “asset-locked bodies” – i.e. those organisations which already have an asset lock. This means that assets may only be transferred to charities, or to other CICs.
The asset lock must be referred to explicitly as a provision in the CIC’s articles of association. In the case of ATTIX CIC the “asset lock” is Radio City Association (RCA) an OSCR registered charity (Charity No. SC042718).
We are based in the Radio City building in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, putting us at the heart of the communities and our projects in the west of Scotland.
ATTIX aim to regenerate communities by creating new opportunities including community ownership of renewable resources.
As a social enterprise and community interest company everything we do is focused on people. We want to create a more circular economy where people are empowered in their community.
We offer a range of services all with the aim of promoting sustainable economic redevelopment of communities in deprived areas to combat poverty and provide a greater future for individuals.
Our ethical stance is our priority in everything we do as a business with an extensive and comprehensive CSR policy. ATTIX CIC is dedicated to creating a social economy where people are placed ahead of profit within a shared value form of business. We look to provide new opportunity and promote economic redevelopment through our projects, putting communities and local people at the centre of everything we do.
